Air Conditioning Systems
In the North East, air conditioners are the major driving force behind the need for additional power plants. Electric power consumption in Massachusetts and the surrounding states typically peaks as air conditioning use spikes in July and August. Reducing the amount of power needed for air conditioning would have a considerable impact on electricity demand and in turn would reduce emissions.
Based on the direct relationship between air conditioning and emissions Labrador Services has made a concerted effort to steer customers towards higher efficiency options. High efficiency air conditioners not only consume substantially less electricity, but they cool living spaces better. Every air conditioning system we install features a minimum 14 SEER rating. This translates into roughly ten percent less electricity used than by equipment that most companies install. Of equal importance is duct insulation. We use the best insulation available and install it per the manufacturers’ specifications. The U. S. Department of Energy estimates that 30 to 40% of energy used for air conditioning is wasted due to poorly installed or leaky air ducts. One of the most important factors in choosing a contractor relates to the company’s commitment to proper installation and energy savings. With Labrador Services, you won’t have to worry.
Better Air Conditioning Systems:
Over the past two years we have increasingly encouraged customers to select air conditioning systems with variable speed compressors. The compressor is the heart of the air conditioning system. As the compressor pumps refrigerant through the home or building, the space is cooled. Variable speed compressors change their pumping capacity based on how hot the outdoor air temperature is. So on a relatively cool June day, the compressor may run at half speed, but when it is a real August scorcher, it may run at full output. Because electricity consumption is closely related to compressor speed, these systems consume the minimum amount of electricity that is needed to cool the home or building. Two added benefits of this equipment are 1) more stable temperature regulation, and 2) better humidity control (reduction). Fujitsu (www.fujitsugeneral.com) and Nordyne (www.nordyne.com) are two manufacturers that we recommend.
