Solar: Electrical

We recommend that customers spend their efficiency dollars wisely. With this in mind we focus most of our attention on insulation and high efficiency heating/air conditioning equipment. Each dollar spent on these items will have an immediate payback. For the home or business owner who has upgraded their insulation and equipment, and wants to go further, we install solar electric (photo voltaic) systems.

When the goal is reducing electricity and eliminating emissions, solar electric or photovoltaic systems are the answer. The costs of these system are coming down, Massachusetts offers great rebate programs through the Massachusetts Technology Collaborative and there is nothing cooler than seeing your electric meter spin backwards. The payback on these systems are usually in the fifteen to twenty year range based on today's electricity prices.

Who makes the best photovoltaic panels?

Comparing the specifications of photovoltaic panels available on the market today can be a dizzying process.  There are many factors to consider: panel size, mounting configurations, power output, etc.  Fortunately, for Massachusetts residents, the selection process is simplified based on local financial incentives.  In addition to a standard rebate for all photvoltiac installations, the State of Massachusetts offers additional funds for solar products that are manufactured within the state. This added savings is just another great reason to purchase the photovoltaic panels produced by Evergreen Solar of Marlboro, MA. There quality and design are excellent.

There are, however, two types of projects in which Labrador Services recommends using other solar panels.  In our several years of experience installing solar energy systems on the South Shore, we have found Sharp panels to be particularly resistant to harsh coastal climates.  Durability is a key consideration in all of our work, and we feel that Sharp solar products make a better investment for homes in close proximity to the ocean.  Additionally, Sharp manufactures triangular modules, which are ideal for projects where roof space is limited.  For example, these panels can be utilized adjacent to dormers and other roof details.
